It's that time again... Assessments!

After 12 weeks of progressively focused physical and neurological training and practice, we will undergo our Level Method Assessments again, starting next week the 19th through Friday the 30th.

We will assess our levels of performance on 15 different strength and conditioning tasks representative of our fitness and will serve as a current snapshot in time of our overall health.

All 15 components reflect our capacities in our 10 General Physical Skills of Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Flexibility, Strength, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy.

Since the vast majority of our Tribe/Student Base is focused on Wellness as part of the Masters age category (40 years and older) Goal Orientation (Fig. 1), then achieving a broad, general, and inclusive fitness is key in maintaining successful aging (Fig. 2).

The longer over time we can keep our capacities of our 10 General Physical Skills high, then we can sustain a high level of fitness that will serve us well into our later years. A sample number of benefits of our long-term pursuit include: higher levels of testosterone, lower blood pressure, and greater bone density and muscle mass (Fig. 3).

This is why we are periodically assessing our training over a calendar year to make sure we are progressively improving our capacities of our skills individually.

Our last 12 weeks of training has been based on a traditional strength and conditioning protocol of starting with higher repetitions at lower intensities (lighter weight, shorter distance, shorter time duration), and progressively increasing our ability to work at higher intensities (heavier weight, longer distance, longer time duration), with us following the underlying charter that we earn more repetitions if we demonstrate proper mechanics, with consistency, prior to increasing intensity, with any movement. In this last 4 week mesocycle we are in currently, of our 12 week training macrocycle, we’ve introduced more variation in combinations of movements and time caps/requirements and repetition requirements. These weeks are our capstone to this cycle of training we started in January.

Now:

On Monday the 19th, we will conduct our Group 1 Assessments.

On Saturday, May 1st, come on over during the day and into the evening for our Promotion and Celebration Day to close out our last 12 weeks of training. What’s in store: a traditional Brazilian FEAST courtesy of Nubia, and fun and games.

Looking forward, starting on May 3rd, we will start a mesocycle for 4 weeks preparing for Murph, which we will do as a group on Monday, May 31st, at 9:00AM.

Our 12 weeks of building up our strength and conditioning will serve as a base for our more specific training starting in May, to prepare for our known event of Murph at the end of the month.

After we do Murph on the 31st, then we will go through another 8 weeks of training and practice, before assessing after that.

Have fun, and see you all in class!
